Documents on your own server: BYOS in PaperOffice AI instead of Classic

What it is and what it is for

Yes, PaperOffice AI can do this. You do not need to switch to PaperOffice Classic. With Own Storage (BYOS), PaperOffice AI stores a workspace's files encrypted on your server or NAS. Only SFTP or Reverse SSH work as storage target. WORM is not available on your own storage.

How it works

  1. Open Document AI → Storage Mounts and click Add Storage Mount.
  2. Choose Use as BYOS-Storage, then SFTP or Reverse SSH.
  3. Set an Encryption Password with at least 16 characters and keep it safe.
  4. Create a new workspace under Document AI → Workspaces. On the General tab, under Storage, choose Own Storage (BYOS) and your mount.

Good to know

  • Without the password nobody can open the files, not even PaperOffice. You cannot change it later.
  • The storage location is final once the workspace is created.
  • PaperOffice stores only metadata and indexes. The files stay with you.
  • Reverse SSH needs no port forwarding. Your NAS opens the connection itself.
  • S3, WebDAV and IMAP exist only as an import source. Imported files are then kept in the PaperOffice data center.
  • How many Storage Mounts you can add depends on your plan.
  • PaperOffice Classic is a different product: a Windows program with its own database and its own help. You do not need it for own storage with PaperOffice AI.
