How large can a file be?

Limits per file

RouteLimit per file
Add document in the app, bulk importer, storage mount, mailbox, smartphone200 MB
Attachment in the chat with the PaperOffice Agent10 MB, PDF and images only (PNG, JPG, WEBP)
Upload through an AI assistant (for example Claude or ChatGPT via MCP)50 MB

Several files at once are allowed. The limit applies to each single file. With very many large files from a smartphone, the transfer can be slowed down briefly. Then continue a little later.

Upload in the app: Add a document.

The file is larger

PaperOffice AI does not accept a file over 200 MB. This is how it still works:

  1. Split it: Split the PDF into several files under 200 MB, for example by letter, month or chapter. Any PDF program can do this. Then upload all parts together.
  2. Scan smaller: For scanned letters, 300 dpi in grayscale or black and white is usually enough. This makes the file much smaller, and text recognition stays reliable.
  3. Scan one by one: Scan each document as its own file. Then PaperOffice AI finds every document on its own.

Many files at once: How do I import data into workspaces?.

In the chat

In the chat with the PaperOffice Agent, attach only smaller files, for example a photo or a PDF for a quick question. Upload larger files in the app with Add document into a workspace. The agent can then work with them.
